8:00-9:00 - Alan November - KEYNOTE - Creating a New Culture of Teaching and Learning
A powerful new culture of empowered teaching and fearless learning is emerging. Access to more timely information and communication tools can empower educators to focus on the individual learning needs of their students. These same tools can lead to more collegiality, build stronger community relationships, and empower students to be more self-directed. This workshop presents clear examples of how this new culture has been achieved.
9:10-10:10- Session I
Alan November - Preparing Teachers for Today
This workshop targets the challenges beginning teachers and teacher educators often face. It explores critical skills teachers should know, such as information literacy. Practical ideas of moving curriculum and assessment to the web are reviewed, along with suggestions on how to link students to primary sources, create authentic assessments, and strengthen community support.

Alan November - Student as Contributor: Digital Learning Farm
Before tractors and combines, more than 60% of the population in North America was involved in farming. Today that number is less than 2%. Farm children made vital contributions to the family with real chores. While technology eventually eroded the meaningful work of children, we can now focus its use to restore the dignity of real work in school. All of our students can use collaborative online tools and research and global communications skills to add value to the learning community.

Weblogs, (or blogs) provide teachers and students with the opportunity to expand classroom walls in new and exciting ways. Students can publish their own work and communicate within a global forum. Teachers can communicate with parents, other educators and share professional development issues. In this workshop, you will see how educators around the world are using theirs in meaningful and effective ways.

Goal setting - led by outside speakers?
Goals for the day:
I think we need to consider this. In actuality, we'll want a blend of things to happen. For the folks who are new to this world, we'll want them to have ideas that they can take and use in the classroom. For the folks who are more experienced, we'll want them to be challenged and stretched a bit. For our teachers who do not believe they have time to offer these kinds of opportunities, we'll need to show them that is is a bit easier then they might consider. A major goal for the day should also be for people to begin thinking about professional development in a transformationally different way...by developing their own personal learning networks they'll be able to engage in professional development activities whenever they'd like.
